It is the goal of the Hay Springs Public School District (District) that all employees are fairly compensated for the work that they do. Towards this goal, Hay Springs Public Schools will comply with all Federal, State, and Local employment laws. In order to facilitate this:
Upon being hired, all Classified Staff will be placed on the Classified Salary Schedule as determined and set by the School Board (Board) at the Base Salary Level with additional consideration given to a Classified Employee for their Educational Level and Experience by the District as determined by the School Administrator. All Classified Employees shall record and report their hours of employment in the manner determined best by the Administrator, but no less frequently than monthly. All hours worked must be recorded and reported. Payment each month will be based on actual hours worked each month including any approved Paid Time Off as approved by the Administrator.
Classified Overtime –Classified Staff will be paid or given compensation time as determined by the Salary Schedule multiplied by 1.5 of any time worked beyond 40 hours in a given work week. The Work Week is defined as being from 12:00 a.m. Saturday through 11:59 p.m. Friday midnight. All overtime must be pre-approved by the Administrator or their designee prior to being worked. The employee will have the choice of time and a half pay for those hours over or time and a half hours off. Compensation time cannot accumulate to more than 40 hours, must be reported monthly, and must be used prior to September 1 or paid out by September 15 of each year.
Classified Salary Schedule–The Classified Salary Schedule shall be reviewed periodically and adjusted as deemed appropriate by the Board.
The Superintendent, or designee, shall maintain a list of qualified substitute teachers who may be called on to replace regular teachers who are absent. Teachers whose names appear on the substitute list shall be duly certified by the State of Nebraska and shall have a current application on file.
Substitutes will be paid at a rate to be reviewed periodically and adjusted as deemed appropriate by the Board of Education; this rate will be reflected on the Classified Salary Schedule.
Upon being hired, all Certified Teaching Staff will be placed on the Certified Salary Schedule at the Base Salary Level with additional consideration given to a Certified Employee for their Educational Level and Experience by the School as determined by the Administrator. Payment to Certified Teaching Staff shall be as the result of a contract that is agreed upon and signed between the Employee and the District, such payment shall continue through the contract period approved by the Board.
The Certified Salary Schedule is negotiated and approved by the District and the Hay Springs Education Association.
The Administrator shall be compensated at a rate and in a manner determined by the Contract negotiated and in affect between the Administrator and the Board.
All employees of the Hay Springs Public School District will be paid on the 15th of each month following the approval of the District Payroll at the regular Board Meeting. If the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday, then employees will be paid on the last working day preceding the 15th. Should the approval of Payroll occur at a Board Meeting that takes place after the 15th, then employees will be paid as soon as is reasonably possible following the Board approval of Payroll.
